Challenges:

The combination of the building being located in a tight Mews and no storage space for materials onsite, meant that logistics had to be carefully planned and coordinated. Deliveries were methodically scheduled with crane lifts so that the glazing could be lifted directly from the delivery vehicles into position on the facade. This method of ‘just in time’ installation is testament to the close collaboration between the main contractor and Propak Project team.

Overview:

9-11 Richmond Buildings is situated on a quiet street in the heart of Soho in London and offers a new six-storey mixed use structure. The development brilliantly utilises a dazzling green glazed terracotta, with inset steel thermally broken windows. This is then starkly contrasted by the use of dark rainscreen cladding which houses large floor to ceiling, steel glazed curtain walling. The introduction of the cladding breaks the three distinct façades and delivers a stunning new building which provides 1,213 sq. m of office space plus two new apartments.

The project has been designed for Firmdale Hotels the owner of the neighbouring ‘Style Savvy’ Soho Hotel and will provide a headquarters for their global business. The aim of the owner was to repair the street frontage to complement and enhance the architecture of their adjacent buildings.

Aesthetically, it was imperative that the new building delivers very slim sightlines, thus maximising the glazing, which, in the case of the Soho Hotel was seen as a major feature of the design.
